The computer lab is very nice and you can always find a spot for completing your work. It's great it you need to get something done quick while still at school or for a fast look up it. They seem to have top of line computers with all the new uploads needed for classes.

Guys & Girls:
Everyone attending Watkins is friendly with great ideals and willing to share there thoughts. Guys & Girls are very easy to talk to, I've met new people from in state and out of state. Some people I knew from attending a Pre- College class during the summer of 2012. Art student have their on look & style when it comes to dressing, but always catching your eye.

The non-arts related "core" classes are great. I've enjoyed the creative teaching style of the professors as they are able to reach out to the creative community and make their subjects just as interesting and involved as the arts classes.

The curriculum is demanding. It requires 6 hours of studio time per week per class on top of lectures and homework. Portfolio review is mandatory and is overseen by all four departments of the College. There are field building networking opportunities and cross training throughout all the art departments.

Guys & Girls:
The students at Watkins College of Art, Design and Film are awesome. Everyone is smart, creative and talented. Most everyone is friendly and welcoming. Being, it is an art school, the students are very supportive of all arts and very open-minded. The only downfall is most students have health issues, but we all come together to take care of one another.

There are a couple of hotspots downtown to go to if you're under 21, but our bus systems in Nashville aren't the most convenient (especially on weekends) so it's best to buddy up with someone who has a car.

Smoking is popular, and alcohol is too. No one will treat you badly if you don't do those things.

Very difficult to attain and keep your scholarships, loans are almost inevitable. My advice is to do your very, very best grade-wise to keep your scholarships, you'll miss them when they're gone.

Tennessee being somewhat unpredictable when it comes to weather, be sure to have both plenty of winter and summer clothes as well as some rain boots and an umbrella (especially if you walk to the school from the dorm buildings).

Are you an artist? What are the reasons you want to go to art school? I can assure you it's not just for the degree. I can assure you that much of your reasons have to do with the environment and experiences of art school. Friends? Art parties? All-night studio binges? Really, let's get simple here. You want a freaking art school experience, right? Then do not go to Watkins. None of the staff are artists, only the teachers. The staff is rude, incoherent, unintelligent, and downright ignorant of the REAL art world. It was like being in high school again. Their facility looks like it was once a shopping mall. They don't have nearly enough studio space for people to use. The school is embarrassed of the students, so much that when they hold their annual rich-snob fundraiser, they don't allow the students to go. The library is tiny, the art history section is a joke, and there is NO passion. The halls are lit like a hospital. The student gallery is tiny and the shows barely get any press. The teachers care, but not enough. The students lose their fire after the first semester and many drop out due to lack of excitement and needing something more. What they are charging in tuition is a joke, and don't expect to get on a work-study program when you get there. The brochure is a lie. Their website is a lie. This place is a lie. Hear me out my fellow artists, go to Chicago or Minneapolis. Go out west or to NY. Leave the south alone when it comes to your art college experience. Trust me.

You're lucky if you get scholarships and get to keep them.

The dorms are within spitting distance of the school, but when you need to go into town (you will) you NEED a car.

Weather in Nashville is forever changing. One day it's heavy coat weather, the next day it's shorts weather. There is at least seasons.

Watkins is a small campus with a large future. Catering to the fortunate and some less fortunate. Watkins strives to include every individual in the growth and embodiment of the school. By Via surveys, emails, and lecture halls they wanna hear what you think and how they can make every students tenure and future students experience the best.

Use Your Feet! The dorms are in walking distance of the school so just walk! Buses and your own car help for exploring outside the central area.

The dorms at Watkins are fantastic, very spacious and set up like an apartment. Privacy is actually possible in them, unlike usual school dorms!

Very Diverse – Watkins has all kinds of people in a tight knit community, it's cool.
College Junior 2012-08-14T00:29:55Z
There aren't many parties that are had on the campus and I like it that way because it doesn't create a negative atmosphere and the studies are focused on more than whose party someone is going to next.

Health & Safety:
There are always janitors on site and the school is clean. The only things around are art supplies.
College Senior 2012-08-13T19:18:21Z
Lively and Inspirational – Nashville is a lot of fun. It's a great place to have an art school as artsy as Watkins. People are free and encouraged to create and really grow in their own artistic abilities. The surroundings really keep inspiration at one's fingertips. There are many artsy cafes, beautiful parks, lively city life, even themed art museums like the Frist. As a film major it isn't really the kind of place to stay forever, but it's a good atmosphere to start.
College Senior 2012-08-13T18:59:58Z
Great Atmosphere and Options – The food is very cafe. The cafe itself was renovated recently to have a full view of the lake. The atmosphere is very nice for studying, and meeting with friends. There is a good selection of comfort and casual foods, pizzas, teriyaki chicken on rice, and sandwiches to name a few. The quality of the ingredients are so-so, and simplistic, but the food gets the job done. Overall the students are very lucky to have such an artsy cafe with such a selection of choices. The pastries and coffee are especially appreciated during those early morning courses. The hours, however, are not so great for those late night courses.

It's Ok I Guess – I mean it can use more quality, but you know beggars can't be choosers

The Realtor Helps – At one point I wanted to live off campus and they directed me to a lady that was very kind and helpful.
College Junior 2012-07-20T20:25:34Z
Lack of Funds – Financial aid should be there to help, but due to parents income it determines how much you're supposed to get. What if those parents aren't helping the student pay for a thing? I definitely think they should put this under consideration.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
