Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Wayne State University is known for its law and engineering programs, and the medical school is recognized as one of the top in the nation. But even though Wayne State has a good local and international reputation, its national reputation is weaker because of its location in Detroit—many shrug off the University before they learn how safe the campus is. WSU is a research-based university, which leads to many exchange students and well-known professors coming here. WSU teachers are experts in their fields, and many have been published. The professors are willing to help you if you put in the effort. They are always available for help or even just to talk because they generally want to see the students succeed. If you show them you are serious about learning and want to succeed, many will help you out by writing letters of recommendation or being a little more lenient on grading. A lot of professors remind their students weeks in advance when tests and papers are due, unlike teachers at other schools. Overall, Wayne State professors are encouraging, insightful, and helpful.

Your workload will be dependent on your class schedule. If you are taking organic chemistry, there will be a lot of homework, but if you are taking American Government, there won’t be much work other than assigned readings. Of course, if you want to truly succeed or go above and beyond the basic requirements, plan on studying frequently. Since many students apply to WSU’s medical program, you will always see people hitting the books hard, studying for the MCAT, and reading textbooks for fun because they are curious and willing to learn.

Professors

professors are helpful but there are many professors that have an accent and it is hard to understand them and i believe that i failed one of my classes just because of that.

As a Student

I love attending Wayne State University. It is right in the middle of my hometown, Detroit. Campus is also not far from major attractions in the city such as The Fox Theater, Comerica Park, Ford Feild, and The Detroit Zoo. It is ethnically diverse. Best of all, the professors are genuine and show they care by they instruct.
