Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

The dorms are probably Wayne State’s best-kept secret! All three dorms have been built within the last 10 years, so they’re still basically brand new. They are state-of-the-art and have Wi-Fi, cable, and private bathrooms in each room. Atchison and Ghafari are the freshman dorms; you share a room with one other person and your bathroom is only used by the two of you. After your freshman year, you can live in the Towers, which has several styles of suites. All three of the dorms connect to a cafeteria, so you do not need to go outside to grab a bite to eat.

The dorms are also very secure. You will need to swipe your OneCard (student ID) just to get into the dorm lobby. After having your ID checked by an RA at the front desk, you will then need that same card to get onto the elevator or up the stairs. After that, you need your OneCard or an actual key to get into your dorm room. There are also cameras in the hallways, stairs, and laundry rooms. If you have any problems, there is always at least one RA on duty to help out with issues in the dorms, and there are usually two RAs at the front desk. All guests must be signed in with their driver's license or a photo ID, and they must have the temporary pass on them at all times. No more than two guests are allowed per student, and they are not permitted to roam the dorms by themselves. Students are allowed one overnight guest with a maximum of four stays per month.

Living on Campus

I love living on campus. I do not have to worry about traffic or being late to classes. Everything I need it in walking distance, restaurants, bookstore, health clinic, grocery store, etc. People here are very nice and helpful. The cost, in my opinion, for dorms, is a little high, but I have never compared to anyone else so I could be wrong.

Good for Students

Being a commuter, my perspective view of the dorms come by word of mouth. With that said, I hear that it very intriguing and great being in dorms in a city such as Detroit, MI.
