Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

There are many choices for off-campus housing, but the cost will depend on where you look. For example, rent will be higher for an apartment right across the street from campus versus one that is a block away. Rents can range from $350 to $1,500 per month with varying utility inclusions and whether or not the apartment is furnished. Many landlords will give students a $20 break or so from rent. The quality of apartments varies, as well; some are brand new, others are older, and some have lots of potential. Currently, there are a lot of construction and renovation projects going on to help revitalize the Midtown area, which is where the campus is located, and many old buildings are being converted into studios or lofts. This is increasing the amount of local housing options.

Most students who attend Wayne State University are commuters, but a lot of students stay in on-campus housing even though it is more expensive (around $900 per month) because of the security, proximity to facilities, and hassle-free utilities.

Joaquin's Analysis

Wayne State University does its best to get students into off- and on-campus housing. The applied programs are created in order to house the students in affordable housing. They seem to have a high participation rate, and those students enrolled in the programs have a good graduation rate.

Off Campus Living at Wayne State

There are a few off-campus living apartments. I hear the prices are ok for college students. Their able to pay with either financial aid or out of pocket. Depending on the ones you get, determines the quality of your living arrangements. People may have to do a little research to make sure that's the place for them. But, I hear some of them are nice, here are a few that aren't up to par to live in. With parking, if you have a parking pass you wil be alright there are three different parking structures to choose from. On the streets will be a hassle they fill up quick so people will have to be a little early to get those. Safety wise, there still apart of Wayne State so people are able to call them in the instance of an emergency. Apartmenst can be good for some students who just absolutely have to be on their own. They are still close to campus so its a win-win situation.
