There are many choices for off-campus housing, but the cost will depend on where you look. For example, rent will be higher for an apartment right across the street from campus versus one that is a block away. Rents can range from $350 to $1,500 per month with varying utility inclusions and whether or not the apartment is furnished. Many landlords will give students a $20 break or so from rent. The quality of apartments varies, as well; some are brand new, others are older, and some have lots of potential. Currently, there are a lot of construction and renovation projects going on to help revitalize the Midtown area, which is where the campus is located, and many old buildings are being converted into studios or lofts. This is increasing the amount of local housing options.

Most students who attend Wayne State University are commuters, but a lot of students stay in on-campus housing even though it is more expensive (around $900 per month) because of the security, proximity to facilities, and hassle-free utilities.
