Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

A majority of Wayne State University students are commuters, so there is always a mad rush to get a good parking spot. There are eight parking structures, all of which are well-lit and secure. Structure 6 is in the center of campus but is always full and costs more because of its location. It is a bit pricey to park in any of the structures or lots, but if you buy a parking pass, which is about $180 for the semester (Structure 6 is $260), it allows unlimited entry into the structure and it guarantees you a parking spot. While it doesn’t guarantee an assigned spot, if you have a parking pass and the structure says “Full,” the guards will still let you in because there will be a spot waiting for you in there.

Structure 2 is the only one open 24/7, so dorm residents park there. There is street parking, but good luck finding a spot! Plus, it is a hassle to keep going back to the spot every two hours to feed the meter, and you will get a ticket if the meter expires. But other than street parking, parking is a breeze if you have a pass.

Cost

To park in the parking structure, there is a fee of 300 a semester. If you do not have a park pass, it is about $5 per entry. I think if you live close to campus, you should save your money by NOT bringing your vehicle to campus.

Parking

Parking permits are expensive and ticketing and fines is ridiculous. The City of Detroit targets parking in that area. It is better to spend money on a parking permit than risk getting fines and possibly towed.

Parking at Wayne State

Parking on campus is easy; there are many parking structures, and if you do not have a parking pass, you can pay to get into any parking structure, or simply park using a parking meter. Parking passes are OUTRAGEOUSLY expensive. Most of the time, my parking passes cost more than my books for a semester! With tuition rising, it is hard to pay for a parking pass. Going to school five days a week, a parking pass is necessary.
