Overall ExperienceWhat's This?

Wayne State University is big but still small enough where all the classes are located relatively close together and you are able to form bonds with your professors and many other students. In general, the people on campus are friendly and willing help you out. Professors, staff, RAs, and peer mentors are available to talk to if you ever need help with anything, whether it is homesick or problems in a class. The University offers free tutoring and Supplemental Instruction (SI) to help if you’re having academic trouble. SI is basiclaly a study group led by a student who already took the class and received an A. The SI leader tries to explain the material in an easier method of understanding and will make up practice tests to help students prepare for real tests. Some professors even use examples from the practice tests in the class exams, so it’s beneficial to go to SI. It is purely optional, but students have found that it raises their grades, on average, by half a grade.

There are so many opportunities available on campus, and you can get involved as much as you want. Wayne State is not a party school and holds academics to a very high level—you will get your tuition's worth. In addition, WSU is very diverse and can best be summed up by what one current WSU student said: "The cultural diversity of campus and the metropolitan campus setting has opened me to so many ideas and experiences that I would never have had access to in the small town where I went to high school. I would definitely come here again." Overall, the students’ experiences have been positive and many say they would come to Wayne State University all over again.

It's Okay Here

Overall, the school is great. Academically, everything was up to par, but socially I didn't really get into it. It seems as if everyone already has a crew, so new people don't really fit in anywhere. But they do provide activities and opportunities to meet new people. I was just so busy with school and work that I didn't check it out.

My Experience

I'm enjoying my time at Wayne State University so far. I been through the first semester so far and it was not easy. Im currently working through the second semester and it seems to be more at ease. Wayne is unique because everything that you need at your disposal is all available to you, and also because Wayne is very diverse.
