Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Wayne State offers two free shuttles that run to different parts of the campus on weekdays from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. The main campus shuttle is available every 15 minutes, while the one runs between the main campus and the medical campus every half hour. Many students use the shuttle whether it’s raining or sunny.

Public buses are available, but the campus is small enough that you don’t need to use one to get to class unless if you are coming from off-campus housing. If you do need to ride the bus, the cost is $2 and transfers are 25 cents. Cabs are available, but there is no use for them, and they are expensive. Students also ride bicycles and rollerblade throughout the campus.

Walking Is a Great Exercise

There aren't buses around on campus, so many students form a group and simply walk together wherever they need to go. Taking a taxi is also an option, but it's pointless to pay each time to get from point A to point B, especially if the place is walking distance.

Buses Are the Most Convienent

A lot of people are commuters and drive their own car. If someone has their own car, some park in the parking structures, which are not that bad at price. Most people, however, use the parking meters on the street. These are not the most reliable. They fill up very fast and people always have to come back and keep filling them up with money. Buses come every half hour and they are very convenient and some don't cost at all. They also have special occasions that occur at Wayne State and provide free busing to those events.

Walking Is the Way to Go

Transportation in Detroit is easy, and cheap; depending on where you go. Most Students just walk because they get homes on campus or either very close. The college always has buses running and so does the city bus. The problem with the city bus is that it has a lot more stops around the town, you may be late riding it.
