Did You Know?
  • Each dining hall hosts one theme dinner a month. Themes include: Harry Potter Night, complete with bubbling cauldrons of soup; World Series Night, featuring chilidogs, hot pretzels, and ice cream sandwiches; and Italian Night, adorned with checkered tablecloths and candles.
  • Sunday Sundaes are a much-revered campus-wide tradition. Come Sunday night, all dining halls set out trays of M&M's, sprinkles, strawberries, chocolate sauce, and whipped cream. Students line up, flex their scooping muscles, and dig in.
  • Midnight Breakfast in Bates is another beloved tradition. Twice a year, during pre-finals reading period, Bates Dining Hall offers up fruit, eggs, sausage, French toast, and hash browns to stressed-out students. There's music and some kind of a photo novelty, so you can look at that keychain photo a couple weeks later and admire the panic behind that, "It'll all be fine, at least I've got fried food" smile.
