Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Students are pretty much in accord: The town of Wellesley isn’t here to cater to the students. In fact, it often seems town residents are trying to forget that the students are here. Wellesley is one of the richest communities in the country, and the shops and restaurants show it. Some students report they feel uncomfortable in the Ville, while others say they make townies uncomfortable. It’s possible that the residents of Wellesley are all very normal with middle-class hearts, but sometimes the town has a bit of a Leave It To Beaver-meets-Children of the Corn ambiance.

Boston is the saving grace for Wellesley students. Hop on the Exchange Bus or the Commuter Rail (see Transportation section), and you’re in Boston in less than an hour. Make runs to CVS in the Ville for necessities or grab a bite to eat on a lazy Friday night, but don’t expect to be partying anywhere nearby. Boston, for many students, is a beacon of hope (Real life! Parties! Men!) that breaks through the hazy, money-drenched clouds of the suburbs.

Gotta Make an Effort

The town of Wellesley is nothing to write home about- small and upscale. You can get your coffee and your prescriptions, but that's about all that will appeal to a student. The school makes it easy to go into and come back from Boston during the week and weekend evenings. There you'll find all kinds of excitement, but your social life is dependent on you making the effort to get on that bus!

Boston!

Downtown Wellesley is not the main attraction. The "Ville" as we call it has a few places to be a consumer: Lemon Thai Cuisine, J.P. Licks Ice Cream, Brueggers Bagels, and Upper Crust Pizzera, Starbucks, Gap, a book store and CVS.

The main attraction is the proximity to Boston. Just a bus ride a way is the largest college town in America. Enough said.
