Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Wellesley guarantees four years of housing, and most students can't think of a reason to live anywhere else. Students question whether it's possible to really be a part of campus life and live somewhere else, and it is true that a large part of the Wellesley experience is chance chats in the dining hall that turn into long conversations, all-house meetings that go on way too long, or study breaks organized by RAs. There are a variety of dorm-related activities, and although first-year students may seem perky and annoying to the jaded senior, having all years living together is beneficial to everyone.

However, some students do decide to move off campus—some to live with significant others, others because they feel suffocated by the on-campus atmosphere—and fare well. Commuting from Boston can be a hassle, but there is some affordable housing available in Natick and Framingham. The Housing Office posts availabilities on a bulletin board, but there are no college-owned apartments off campus or centralized services for students searching for off-campus housing.

Off-Campus Housing at Wellesley College

No One Lives Off-Campus

I do know of one person that lived off campus in Boston, but those were special circumstances. On the whole, however, nobody lives off campus. There is little to no affordable student friendly housing in Wellesley, MA, and definitely your social life would suffer if you lived off campus. Everyone WANTS to live on campus anyway--that's where everything happens.

No One Lives Off Campus

Housing is guaranteed for every student, all four years of college. Therefore, not many people live off-campus. Transportation around the town of Wellesley isn't great unless you have a car. Plus, Wellesley is ridiculously expensive.

Off Campus Housing- What?

There is little off campus housing, and most students choose to live on campus. 1-2 students every year lives at the Natick Organic Farm, which requires 15 hours a week of work in exchange for housing. The housing near Wellesley has low availability, high cost, and low convenience. On campus housing is a great opportunity though, you just roll out of bed to class.
