College Prowler Take
Transportation is frustrating because while it’s easy to get to Boston, you need a car to get to the grocery store. Some students feel trapped in the Wellesley bubble, though there are several buses that service Wellesley. The Exchange and Senate buses transport students to MIT and other colleges, but most students say they can be unreliable. The Commuter Rail and the T in Boston are more reliable but also cost more. The Escort Van runs in the evenings to transport students around on campus. While transportation within Wellesley is often unreliable and hard to come by, it is much easier to access from Boston. The city provides the airport, cabs, and various other methods of transportation, but having a car makes things much easier when it comes to traveling around Wellesley or other cities besides Boston. Dealing with traffic and the on-campus parking issues can be a hassle, however.

We have a bus that will take you into Boston any day of the week. It usually leaves every hour. On weekdays, it stops at different areas of the MIT campus for people taking classes there, and it also stops on Commonwealth Avenue—a popular shopping spot. You can take the T (metro) from any of these locations into different parts of the city. On weekends, the bus also has a stop at Harvard square—a popular hangout for Wellesley women. Basically, we're very connected to the city through public transportation, but if you miss the last bus—good luck.

Public transportation around town...
Public transportation around town is awful. It is far easier to get to the Whole Foods in Cambridge than in Wellesley, for example. |

The Wellesley bus and Commuter...
The Wellesley bus and Commuter Rail (and the T in Boston) are very easy to navigate and fairly convenient. |

It sucks. The bus company is very unreliable, and it takes 45 minutes to get into Boston, and the closest T stop is pretty far away from the school. There’s no parking in Boston, so it’s not like you can drive in, either. It’s tough, but we manage. |

The Exchange and Senate Buses,...
The Exchange and Senate Buses, which run once an hour till after midnight 7 days a week, are the greatest convenience. Even if people don’t like to admit it, they’re glad to have the bus service around. It’s not always 100 percent reliable, but it is cheap (or, during the week, free) transportation into Boston/Cambridge, and most people I know use it all they can. |
