Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Wesleyan students have a traditionally tense relationship with the residents of Middletown, and the town itself is not especially safe. While the city is said to have been voted one of the best small-town Main streets (presumably because of all the delicious restaurants), there is enough crime that Wesleyan recommends its students not to walk alone at night. Every once in a while, students will get an email about a mugging or something of the sort, but generally, as long as you're smart about where/when you walk, you will be fine.

Students say that they feel safe walking on campus because Public Safety officers patrol the campus day and night. There is also a program called "The Ride" that can pick kids up if they feel unsafe walking at night. The newly instituted "Blirp-It" system (meaning of acronym unknown, even by the people who created it) allows kids to check where The Ride is at all times so they can be picked up more easily.

You'll Be Fine - Just Use Your Head

I've never felt unsafe at Wesleyan. Sure, there are things that go down but as long as you use common sense, you should be fine.

Personal Safety

I have never felt unsafe on campus. The campus provides its students with 24/7 safety and there is no hesitation to events that can cause danger to the students or the campus.

As Good as You Need It to Be

Personally, I never feel unsafe walking home at any time of night. The Ride is there to take you where you need to go (although you should invest in a schedule so as not to get left) but even walking has presented no problem to me. P-Safe is there if you need them and willing to help (just don't let them get to know you as a problem).
