Drugs are not a concern at all. Because of the contained environment, the only time that cadets really even have access to drugs is when they are on leave. After every block leave, there is usually a drug test, so if a cadet does drugs while they are on leave, there is a very good chance that they will get caught. And if a cadet gets caught, he will be dismissed. It’s a very simple policy at West Point—absolutely no drugs allowed. The Academy will redefine strictness, and if you have a problem with authority, this is not the place for you.
The consensus among cadets is that drugs are not a concern on campus; the only drugs that you see on campus are tobacco products and alcohol. Punishments against excessive or irresponsible use are enforced, and they are very black and white. There is no way to ‘get out of it’ at West Point—you can’t talk your way out of a positive urine test. Don’t expect a second chance at the Academy because you won’t get one.

There are hardly any drugs at all. Most people have worked too hard to get here to get tossed out for a high.

Drugs are not a concern...
Drugs are not a concern whatsoever. The closest thing to drugs is tobacco. After Buckner, you start to see some cadets start to dip. |

A lot of the cadets at West Point...
A lot of the cadets at West Point take Creatine, as well as other supplemental drugs. Every now and then, you will hear about a cadet who took ripped fuel or an acidic supplement and pissed hot because of the supplement. |

Throughout the summer and academic year, you have random urinalyses. You also have random health and welfare inspections. The bottom line is that if you do drugs, you will get caught. Every now and then, you hear about someone who smoked pot while on leave, or went to a party where there were drugs, and tests positive. But this rarely happens. If you either test positive or they find drugs, you automatically get the boot. |

The main concern is not drugs on campus, but rather drugs off campus. Cadets always try to make the most of the leave that they get—maybe too much, sometimes. |
