Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

There is a good amount of fraternities and sororities on campus, but they do not play a huge role in the social scene. These organizations are only really important to the people that are in them, causing an inadvertent separation between Greek members and non-Greek members. This being said, fraternities and sororities are a great way to meet new friends, but they are not necessary to fit in. Fraternities and sororities also throw a lot of functions and parties. The formals are members-only, but they throw many parties that are open to all. These usually cost $5 to get in and have kegs placed throughout the house. Students don’t have to be members of the organizations to find out about the parties—they are often advertised so members can make money.

There are a few different opinions of Greek students from non-Greek students. Some think Greek students feel they are better than everyone else, while others just don’t care for the whole idea of fraternities or sororities at all. Other students like these organizations because they throw good parties or help them make new friends. If there is one thing the Greek organizations at WVU do extremely well, it’s give back to the community. They host more than their share of charitable events, clothing drives, and raffles to help organizations and people in need. While WVU Greek students may not dominate the campus, they do help dominate where it counts, and that is in the community.

Loud, Disruptive, Homophobic

The Greeks here tend to party loudly and set fire to things. Their casual use of homophobic slurs earn them no points from the more progressive members of the student body.

Lots of Greek Life

Greek life is a big part of WVU. There are many active frats and sororities on campus. I've been tp a few frats to party, each frat is similar, but has a few key differences. Most frats are cool, some are stuck up though.

Sororities

There are 8. Alpha Omicron Pi, Alpha Phi, Alpha Xi Delta, Chi-O, Delta Gamma, Kappa Kappa Gamma, Pi Beta Phi, and Sigma Kappa. Go through rush and get the feel for every single sorority. Also, try it before you just assume it's not for you. Keep an open mind, that's what college is all about. Since greek life here is kinda small compared to the south, we don't really have rivalries. We are all greek and all get along. Greek organizations also socialized some with non greek organizations so there isn't the hatred of greeks and non greeks.
