Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

The social scene on campus is very strong. Students at WVU are both socially and academically minded. They work hard during the day and party harder at night. One thing to remember is there are rules in the dorms about having members of the opposite sex in your room. During the day, anyone can be in the dorms, but during the evening, the rules become more strict. Members of the opposite sex cannot be signed in after midnight, and students are not permitted to have members of the opposite sex stay the night in their room. No one actually goes room to room checking for this rule violation, but it will be enforced if it happens to be noticed.

It seems that there is a steady mix of both relationships and hookups. It is common for lot of relationships to start from people just hooking up and developing into something more serious. There is a mix between promiscuous students and people who are a little more reserved on campus. The ratio of males to females is almost even, so competition is minimal for the sexes. There is usually an even distribution of guys and girls at all the social events. Some parties and events can get pretty wild, but other bars and clubs have a tamer atmosphere. The campus does try to promote safe sex as much as possible. They offer free HIV tests, as well as discounted contraceptives in a discreet manner. There are also STD screens and counseling that is provided at the Student Health Center.

Extremely Friendly

Everyone is friendly at WVU. People are eager to meet others and you hardly ever hear catty conversations between people at parties. Partying and enjoying school life is a top priority to students but so is school work.

Demographics

Since WVU is such a large school, there is a refreshing variety in the students. We have typical American teenagers in jeans and T-shirts, but we also have Middle-Eastern students in their traditional dress. The looks vary. We act more of a family at WVU than anything. Everyone is friendly.

Facts

Social Scene

The social scene at WVU is very strong. West Virginia is known as being a party school, and it absolutely lives up to its reputation. There are numerous activities to participate in, and a large population of the University takes part in them.

Hookups or Relationships?

There is a high number of hookups and relationships going on at WVU. There are some people that "aren't ready" for a relationship and would just rather hook up with people without the commitment. Then, there are people who are looking for a relationship and the commitment that comes with it. No matter what you are seeking, you can find it at WVU.

Best Places to Meet Guys/Girls

You can meet guys or girls pretty much anywhere, if you are actually looking for them. Probably the easiest place to meet a member of the opposite sex is at a bar or at a party because everyone is out with the same intent to have a good time and meet some good people. Other good spots are at football games and in your classes, where you're sure to find someone you like.

Dress Code

There is no dress code at WVU. Every student is free to dress in whatever they feel comfortable in. Whether more proper or casual, many different types of dress can be seen throughout campus. When going out, students try to dress in whatever they think will make them look the best and raise their odds of meeting people of the opposite sex. Girls and guys usually save their most attractive clothes for when they go out on the town.
