Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Safety and security on campus is definitely something that WVU takes pride in. There is a strong police presence on campus, but not one that overwhelms students and makes them constantly look over their shoulder. If there is any type of emergency, police are quickly dispatched and arrive in a timely manner, giving students a good sense of security. There are also many blue-light emergency phones all over campus, so students have many outlets to contact someone if they do, in fact, need help.

There really is not much of an “off campus” area due to the fact that the surrounding area of Morgantown is really just an extension of the WVU campus. With this in mind, the surrounding area is probably the safest because it is the most popular area of WVU. All of the nightlife occurs here and is definitely kept under control by the authorities. It is very well lit, and there are always people out, so students have no reason to feel unsafe. Traveling to and from parties and events is a low-worry situation for students. Even though the PRT closes at 10 p.m., students are not without a safe way to get back home. There is a bus that runs until 3 a.m. every night from downtown to campus, so students who stay out later can still get home without a problem. Whether it is with the campus police or the buses, WVU makes sure that their students stay safe.

Campus Security

Instead of having cops at Eat'n'park, there should be more cops downtown where it's actually dangerous. I have never felt safe at WVU at night.
