Academics Aren't Too Bad If You Put the Time in

This is college so its going to be more difficult than high school. A S***LOAD of freshman get taken up by the party scene. Yes we absolutely do have the BEST PARTY SCHOOL but you need to spend time on school work. Professors are there if you need them. We have an amazing library and thousands of places to study like the mountain lair, library, dorms, anywhere outside, and usually buildings have some sort of area dedicated to studying with tables and chairs. Especially the Business and Economic building, and brooks Hall. The Undergraduate business program recently was ranked in the top 100 in the country. We also brought in a new Dean and have plans to build a better graduate building. But when your getting a job its more than academics. You have to get some extracurriculars. Its so easy to join a club.. ESPECIALLY FRESHMAN YEAR. if you've had it all throughout college it looks better than doing it starting your junior year. The academic business frat I'm in meets once a week for the 1st semester and then for the rest of your time in college its only twice a month.. NOT that hard.

DRUNK BREAKFAST

this isn't a joke. WVU offers you nachos till midnight on Friday and Saturday and after that they offer eggs and biscuits. They literally hand you free food when you have the drunk munchies. It's part of their Up All Night program at the Mountain Lair and they usually have something fun for people to do who don't go out and drink on the weekends. It's fun to watch though when you are drunk and I love nachos when I'm drunk.

WVU Life

I am proud to call myself a Mountaineer and a member of the West Virginia University family. Academically, I have been motivated and educated by some of the most interesting and articulate people I have ever met. Class isn't something I dread, but rather something that I look forward to, thanks to the support and enthusiasm of WVU faculty.

The social scene at WVU is also very impressive. From numerous clubs and activities, WVU seems to have extracurricular to fit all personalities and interests. The night lift at WVU is also one to write home about. Our downtown is lined with bars, clubs and delicious restaurants that receive great attention on the weekends.

The overall sense of inclusion and community is what really attracted me to WVU. Not only does support come from fellow students and faculty, but the whole state of West Virginia seems to support each WVU student and the success of the Mountaineers. Whether it's at a football game or in the classroom, the WVU pride is displayed and supported through out the humble state of West Virginia.

Excellent Professors

As an Industrial Engineering student, I can easily say that WVU professors are making everything more simple and understandable.

They go over things if you don't get it at the first time, and always are willing to help you on anything you need.

I am thankful for what WVU is giving me!

You won't regret.

Drinking School but Anything You Want Is Here.

Kegs and natty light everyone. Easy for a minor to drink. House parties EVERYWHERE. Frats throw parties a lot and we also have clubs and bars but its a little bit harder to drink there. You can find a s*** load of weed. People also do ecstasy shrooms pills acid and molly but their in the minority. Still relatively easy to get if you know the right people but that stuff isn't out in the open like weed and alcohol. Although a good portion of people drink and smoke weed i don't consider it a problem. Nobody will ever pressure you into doing anything you don't want to do.

Demographics

Since WVU is such a large school, there is a refreshing variety in the students. We have typical American teenagers in jeans and T-shirts, but we also have Middle-Eastern students in their traditional dress. The looks vary. We act more of a family at WVU than anything. Everyone is friendly.

Amazing

wvu is honestly the best. you meet the greatest people, the town is beautiful, professors are helpful, many major options, and the social life aspect is out of this world. the football games and tailgates are so much fun, you will see thousands of people of all ages getting hammered and having the time of their life. the atmosphere of this town is amazing. you will here the "ASS****" "LETS GO! MOUNTAINEERS!" and "EAT S*** PITT" chants all day, everyday, for your entire stay here. there is always something to do (any day/night of the week), classes arent bad, and the expierence is something i will never forget. i wouldnt trade this school for the world. ps. everyone thats visited here that i know of said it was the best time they have ever had and theyve never experienced or heard of any town like morgantown.

Health & Safety

Although I heard from my RA that 66% of the students have an STI, there is a lot of safety and health. Those people were stupid. The condom caravan come around every so often and sells condoms, 5 for a 1$. CRAZY RIGHT. The carruth center is always available for talking to someone or seeking other psychology s***. Ive never been there but they advertise it a lot. I think the first 12 sessions are free for a semester. There is a lot of Drugs but its up to you to stay away or do them responsibly. There is a shit load of cops. at the freshman towers, they oversee everyone who comes in to the dorms after midnight from thursday to saturday. You here about thefts but as long as your smart you have nothing to worry about.

OUT OF STATE KIDS!

So WVU offers a lot of programs like sports and exercise psych that other state schools don't offer. WVU will give you in-state tuition if you can find a program they have that a school in your state doesn't. so look around and try to get intrested in something like that. It will save you soooo much money! also when you send your transcript they automatically look to see what scholarships you can get with your grades. so getting money here is so easy, you just gotta apply!

Transportation at West Virginia University

Works Less in Practice Than in Theory

WVU squeaks out an "A-" for at least trying desperately to meet the transportation needs of its student population. The PRT (Personal Rapid Transit) rail system is a quirky relic, but it's pretty convenient during working hours IF it's running smoothly. The Mountain Line bus service is pretty consistent and operates as well as any other college bus system that I've relied upon. Both mass transit options are free to students. Student's living far from campus may be forced to drive if their apartment complex does not offer a native transportation service, though many do. If you choose to drive (and you're from the South or Midwest), note that steep hills pose a challenge to students who own compact cars--particularly in winter. Morgantown's roads get dicey once snow begins to fall. Ice creates potholes so quickly that the city struggles to find and fill them.

The Tail in One City

You might not meet your wife at WVU, but you're meet plenty of girls that want to have as much fun as you do. There are a wide range of types in Morgantown, though I preferred the native West Virginian coeds when I attended. Most of the smarter ladies tended to be state residents.

A Tale of Two Cities

I'll preface this review by admitting that the city of Morgantown grew on me immensely during my West Virginia University experience. The Mountain State setting, beautiful summers, blue collar feel and friendly locals offset much of what I didn't like about WVU's off-campus housing scene. With that said, there are some "student slums" (i.e. Sunnyside) that the University is actively trying to police and improve. But an ever-increasing number of furnished apartment complexes offer clean (albeit, overpriced) living, for those who wish to avoid the "extracurricular" WVU experience that characterizes the city's downtown neighborhoods. Some of the apartments located above the brick, commercial buildings along High Street are steals that offer plenty of space, instant access to WVU's Downtown Campus and the promise of a great time.
