College Prowler Take
The weather in West Virginia can be beautiful at times and terrible at others depending upon the season. There are definitely four seasons in WV, with summer and fall being the nicest times of the year. The summers are usually nice and warm with constant sunshine and the occasional rain shower. The fall is cool and crisp, and it creates great scenery when all the leaves start to change. The spring and winter are different stories, however. The spring can be a little cold, and it’s usually marred with rain. The winter is the most brutal season, however, as it starts in mid-November and extends all the way until March sometimes. Students are pelted with very cold temperatures, snow, and rain, making for an unpleasant time outside. Students should pack clothes that can be worn in every season. It is especially important for students to bring clothes for hot weather, as well as layers and warm clothes for the extremely cold winters. Rain and snow gear is also very important. Cold weather and rain can put a damper on students’ attitudes because it can get so dreary, but the warm weather and nice scenery can help make up for it. One good thing about the winter weather is the great skiing and snowboarding that is available not far from campus. Students can get great rates and even rent equipment from the Student Rec Center. Another bad winter perk: every once in a while, classes are cancelled if the weather is inclement. This is a rare occurrence, yet can happen if a bad enough storm hits.

Weather here can change...
Weather here can change drastically within a week---sometimes within a single day. It ranges from blizzards to heat waves. I would definately recommend a variety of clothes.

The weather is really capricious....
The weather is really capricious. You can have a foot of snow one day, and it'll be 55 the next. Summers are pretty humid. You definitely get all four seasons, which is nice, but you might also get summer in the middle of winter for a few days!

In Morgantown, the weather is warm...
In Morgantown, the weather is warm in the fall and spring, but winters get cold due to the wind chill. A good all-weather, waterproof coat is a smart investment, but be prepared for weeks in mid-January where it may get as warm as 60 degrees.

The weather is awful. I am used to it because I am from an hour north, but I have heard many students complain. It rains a lot and can get very cold and snowy. It is not easy to get around in the snow with all the hills. Fall and spring seasons are not too bad, but summer is extremely humid. I would say bring everything because you will need it, winter coat and umbrella especially.

Plan on hot summers and very cold winters, as well as a lot of rain and snow! There are really nice days, but then again, it does rain a lot here. |
