Western has a great variety of majors and academic programs, and is most particularly noted for its engineering and aviation programs. In fact, the University is one of very few schools in the nation that offers aviation as a major. The Haworth College of Business, one of the largest business schools in the United States, is among the top business schools in the state, as well as in the nation; Haworth is also one of the most elite business schools worldwide, in that it's accredited at both the undergraduate and graduate levels by the American Association of Collegiate Schools of Business.

As a larger school, most people may be concerned with class sizes being too large; however, there are very few classes at Western that are large and lecture hall-based. The majority of classes has between 30 and 50 students. For most classes, attendance is required, with only three excused absences being allowed. There are a lot of internship opportunities available, as well. The difficulty of classes varies greatly, depending on the major.
