At WMU, there is a large population of students who choose to live off campus—and for good reason, too. Depending on where one chooses to live, the rent can potentially be cheaper than living in the dorms. Depending on your location of choice, rent varies greatly with apartments and houses. The closer you live to campus, the more expensive rent will be.
There is also a large population of students slightly out of the University boundary, labeled the "student ghetto." Rent is typically cheap there, around $200 to $300 a month. In the apartments, electricity is typically the only utility a student is responsible for paying. In the houses, however, all utilities are taken into account. The apartments offer a variety of amenities, such as swimming pools, free Internet and cable, and a workout facility.
