College Prowler Take

The Wheaton College dating scene is like a ridiculous television sitcom and by far the most intriguing aspect of the College. Guys and girls alike want to date; sometimes they’re even attracted to each other, but for some reason, most do not date. Sure, everyone fits in at Wheaton. The student body is the friendliest you’ll ever find, and you can practically go up to anyone and start a conversation. However, over the years, a stereotype has formed at Wheaton, making it very difficult to date around. The stereotype states, “Wheaton students only date if they’re looking for a mate.” Some say that a girl will not even let a guy take her out unless she can see herself marrying him. Scary cliché aside, Wheaton students really do view dating differently, for two reasons. First off, most students are career-oriented and focused on academics. Next, all the men and women are of the Christian faith. This causes some to take dating very seriously, and asking the opposite sex out is not commitment-free, but rather the start of a grave life-or-death situation.

Honestly, Wheaton students are beautiful people, and your eyes will generally be pleased everywhere you look on campus. If you simply muster the courage to break the stereotype of “dating to find a mate,” you will reap the benefits of a great relationship. As for a sex scene, there is a small portion of sexually active students at the school. Mind you, it’s not even close to the prominence of sex at a state school, but it is out there. All in all, here is some sound advice to go by: get to know members of the opposite sex for friendship, dating, or a relationship. Eat with them, watch movies with them, and play coed IM sports with them.

I know that I have lived with some quality men, and I think I am comfortable enough with my masculinity to admit that we are quite the group of hotties. As for the rest of the people on campus, we have some really attractive guys and girls.

The student body is very attractive, but on the less shallow side, the guys and girls are normal. The guys are typical guys: they are funny, athletic, and love their video games. The girls, again, are the typical girls: they are more mature than the guys, they have their group of friends, and they are extremely nice people. However, as soon as you enter campus, something extremely weird happens. The guys don’t ask girls on dates, but the girls freak out if they finally get asked out. Who can understand it? I think that’s really just a freshman and sophomore thing, but the juniors and seniors have been scarred by it and can’t seem to move forward either.

Both the girls and the guys are well-rounded. However, the ‘Christian atmosphere’ places a damper on the dating and social scene. Still, there’s always a group of people you can find to chill with. And, there are more hot guys than girls, but fortunately, there are always a few in each class.

The girls are hot, and the guy-girl situation is somewhat awkward at first, but it only gets better. It just takes time.

Social Scene

Social interaction is not a burden to students at Wheaton, because they can practically go up to anyone in the school and start a conversation. There are introverted students, but even they seem to find their niche. There is no real social hierarchy in the student body, with the possible exception of the football team, but they seem to embarrass themselves by being loud and rowdy in the cafeteria. The only real social division that is noticeable on campus is between the students in the Conservatory of Music and the students in the Liberal Arts College. With demanding schedules, conservatory students spend most of their time practicing in the conservatory building and have difficulty finding time to hang out with students other than fellow music majors.

Hookups or Relationships?

There is a noticeable proportion of students who are in relationships, but also a sizeable pool of singles compared to other colleges and universities. This is partly because opposite-gender friendships at Wheaton have an impressive ability to remain platonic. There is also a notorious stigma at the school that Wheaton students never date unless they are looking for marriage. This is, indeed, true for some poor souls who stay away from the dating scene. Nevertheless, a good number of students ignore the stereotype and find that dating at Wheaton College not only possible, but fun. Hookups, or non-committal sexual encounters, are extremely rare at Wheaton. Most of the student body adheres to the Christian principles, which have become the Wheaton College standard, and are not sexually active while at the school.

Best Places to Meet Guys/Girls

Students are so involved with their studies and extracurricular activities that it is fairly common for coeds to hit it off while they sit next to each other in class, study together in the dorms, or work together in the same club, sport, or activity. There is also some history of girls and guys on brother-sister floors cuddling during the late-night dorm hours. The lobby in Fischer Hall has a reputation for accommodating late-night cuddling and make-out sessions for couples. Such students are affectionately labeled “lobby couples.” If you want to expand from scholastic activities or dorm functions, there are occasional off-campus parties to attend, but they are not nearly as prevalent as they are at schools with a Greek life. Finally, if you’re looking to spot the real eye-candy of the campus, you might have to wait until the end of the spring semester. The male and female bodies that had been covered with huge, bulky jackets in the winter begin to feel warmth once again, and spring beckons for the display of more skin. It is around this time of year that the sex appeal on campus rises, and students begin to take more notice of one another. It is also around this time of year where numerous comments are written on the student Forum Wall about how women should wear more clothing, so not to become objects of lust for the men. Although it’s meant to be serious, most students get quite a laugh out of it.

Dress Code

Dress among students varies, although for the most part, students wear semi-preppy clothing. Most students present themselves very well on this campus, but dress ranges from hoodies and sweats, to T-shirts and jeans, to collars and khakis. A noticeable number of ladies do their hair and wear makeup daily. On Sundays, you will see the Wheaton student body looking its best, as nearly all students attend churches in the area (even those who don't go to church will come to the cafeteria looking like they did in order to fool everyone). As for a specific dress code, there are some stipulations for on-campus attire that require students to wear shirts and shoes in all areas of the campus and forbids sunbathing in public view. The dress code asks all students to always dress modestly, which most students do anyway.
