College Prowler Take

Everything in Wheaton is within walking distance, so there is not much public transportation. In fact, besides the Metra train station, most students have never even heard of another public transportation venue in Wheaton. If you are worried about a ride to the airport, the school’s student government offers a shuttle service on various school breaks, and car rentals and pickup services are easy to organize through Airtran and Bluebird Charter Coach. Besides that, the only other reason you would ever need public transportation in Wheaton would be for running errands or picking up some groceries, and most students normally charm rides from their friends anyway.

The Metra train network is great transportation system for Wheaton students. The station is a 10-minute walk or less from anywhere on campus and directly across from the College-owned Terrace Apartments. The closest Metra takes you to Chicago and five other cities along that route. Once you are in Chicago and you have to go a significant distance or just prefer not to walk, you can use the L-train system. Some students are a little intimidated by the L, but those who know how to use it say that it’s incredibly efficient. As for the bus system in Chicago, feel free to use it, but it can be a little confusing. If you are ever in doubt, Chicago has thousands of taxi cabs everywhere that can take you anywhere you need to go. Still, most students never access any of these transportation networks, simply preferring a nice stroll in the big city.

Public transportation pretty much sucks. I mean, it’s really inconvenient, especially in the winter. But, the campus is small enough that you usually just walk everywhere.
