College Prowler Take

To live off campus, students need to fill out forms and go through certain real estate companies that are provided by the school. Each spring semester, a limited number of petitions for off-campus housing are accepted. But, students do go through this process, and upperclassmen who live off campus say they love it and are happy that they have a house of their own.

Many parties take place at these off-campus houses, which has become a concern of Public Safety and of the College in general, mostly because they know that students are drinking at these parties, but the only way to get there is to drive. Overall, there are not tons of advantages to living off campus, and the cost turns out to be about the same as living on campus. But, the students who live in off-campus houses seem to be happy with their choices.

Housing is guaranteed all four years at Wheaton, and the dorms are generally clean and the meal plan is worth it, so only about 5 percent of students live off campus. The ones who do rent apartments or small houses within five miles of campus.

I only know one person who lives...

I only know one person who lives off campus, and the choice was not his. One very important aspect of Wheaton is the feeling of community it serves. Basically, we students all see each other frequently, eat with our friends, and procrastinate by bouncing around campus to visit people we know. These are crucial bonding rituals that bring the campus community together, and I think that anyone living off campus would undoubtedly feel separate from the small Wheaton society.
