I wish I could be more helpful on this one! I haven't had an internship yet, and I haven't looked into them very much either. Right now I'm fairly poorly informed.

To declare at Whitman College is easy enough. There is a single form that must be filled out, which requires the signature of your premajor adviser and the signature of the faculty member that you want to be your major adviser. The hardest part is deciding who you want to be your major adviser.

Astrophysics and Mathematics Is Perfect! I absolutely love my majors! Both departments are small enough that the professors know you on a personal level and can customize their teaching style to the way you learn, yet large enough to offer a variety of fantastic classes. I plan on becoming an astrophysics researcher after earning a PhD in astrophysics and have absolutely no doubt that I will find a job in this field.

Boeing Technical Intern – Through a Boeing visit to Whitman I applied and earned a Boeing internship which was wonderful. The pay was exceptional, they paid for my own apartment, and the work atmosphere was encouraging, challenging, and exciting. Time commitment was 40 hours a week plus any overtime which I always gladly accepted. I performed research conducting galvanic corrosion testing on non-chromated primers for coating commercial airplanes.

Great School, Great Professors – I majored in Geology at Whitman, and it was a wonderful experience. The sciences at Whitman are very strong for a school of its size, which is part of what drew me to the school, but I think that the real strength of Whitman is the breadth of the education you receive. The professors are there to work with you, not with graduate students, and they put in more than they are required to make sure you have what you need. This was true not only of my in-major professors, but for all of my classes -- my photography professor, for example, went out of his way to make time to meet with me despite my busy schedule of science laboratory classes and varsity athletics.
