Since there isn’t much to do in Walla Walla, even if you are over 21, most nightlife happens right on Whitman’s campus. Nightlife could be defined as frat parties, house parties, dorm parties, concerts, or other Whitman-sponsored events. Almost every Friday night, there is a musical event called Coffeehouse in the basement of Reid that features students and occasionally a local band. There are also lectures or speakers, theatre and dance performances, screenings of movies, and the occasional sporting event. Parties are the main source of amusement and entertainment on campus. Dorm parties are generally attended by first-years and are often hosted for the purpose of drinking before another event on campus. House parties are generally open to all of campus, although it may depend on where they are being hosted and whether they are intended for a specific campus group, The frats are often quite inviting, always open for girls, and very genial if you make an attempt to get to know their members in the light of day, too. They can be exclusive, however, if the party follows a Greek function. Other options for those over 21 include the Green or other Walla Walla bars. Students with cars will occasionally venture to the Tri-Cities to experience the few dance clubs there. There is always something happening in any of these options, and most students enjoy the accessibility and openness of the parties and events there.

Most of the nightlife happens on campus, unless you’re older. For freshmen, it’s frat parties and parties in their dorm rooms; for sophomores, it’s house parties and frat parties; for juniors, it’s mainly house parties, and some off-campus bar hopping or clubbing; and for seniors, it’s pretty much exclusively house parties, bars, and clubs. |

Nightlife? I usually watch movies and hang out with friends. Occasionally, if it pleases me, I’ll venture to the frats or a house party. But I don’t mind that there’s not a ton of nightlife—it would wear me out. |

It’s some consolation that Walla Walla has some places to dance, but most of them are pretty shady; for the most part, students stay centralized on campus.
Bar Prowler
There aren’t too many places for students to go for drinks, but of the more well known is the following place.
Organization Parties
Reflecting the social groups formed, each clique often has its own parties, such as athletic teams or the theater kids. In fact, the drama crowd has been known to throw some pretty outrageous theme parties, where their specialty drink, known as the “grog,” is readily available if you show up early.
Club Listings
This is a good place to go for hip-hop music, and the DJs usually aren’t too bad. Rosita's sponsors 18-and-older parties, as well as 21-and-older events. Rosita’s 201 E Main St. (509) 525-6361
This is a great place for the 21-and-older crowd to go for drinks and dancing. It’s the only place off campus that offers a really great dance floor, as well as drinks. Barnaby’s 405 Wellington Ave. (509) 525-7142
Bar Listings
The Green, beloved by students and professors alike, is about the only bar in Walla Walla that Whitties frequent. It is known for its selection of draft microbrews and fish tacos! The Green Lantern (aka The Green) 1606 E Isaacs Ave. (509) 525-6303
What to Do if You're Not 21
Stay on campus—this is what most students do, even if they are over 21. Dances, concerts, lectures, frat parties, dorm parties, and house parties abound, making it easy for those under 21 to find something to do. It is a rarity that there aren’t at least a couple of options on any given weekend night.
