Overall ExperienceWhat's This?

Though Whitman has had its ups and downs, overall, most students have absolutely loved it and feel there is no possible college better for them. Many warn that it does take some adjusting (especially with Walla Walla being less metropolitan than what some are used to), but of course, that’s a large part of what college itself is, no matter where you are. At Whitman, it’s challenging to adjust to the environment; if you find something drastically contrasting to what you’re accustomed to before college, perhaps more so than it would be at other schools closer to larger cities. In general, most students have found they need to make a larger adjustment of some kind to Whitman’s environment, but most have loved their experiences once they found a comfortable niche.

Many seniors find it difficult to leave Whitman because of the bonds they create with people there, be it with students or professors. Whitman also has a very strong and supportive network of alumni, which is indicative of the bond many people have with Whitman. Several students feel they’ve grown in many positive ways by being put through the challenges of Whitman, and all in all, wouldn’t change their experiences there for the world. It’s said to be a unique and special place, unlike any environment most students have ever been in, and many think it will be difficult to leave when graduation comes. The people really make the school, and are some of the most thoughtful, well-spoken, humorous, and genuine people you’ll find anywhere.

Best Time of My Life!

This school is as great as it sounds. People focus on academics and make schoolwork a priority but aren't afraid to take a break and have fun. While the location may seem isolating, it helps to foster the strong community that is one of most striking features at the school. Students are actively involved in campus life and work hard to make the school the best it can be. Only downsides I've noticed are the lack of diversity and the gossipy nature of some people because the school is so small.

Whitman is fantastic. I absolutely...

Whitman is fantastic. I absolutely love it. The people here are incredibly smart and genuinely nice and outgoing. The classes are stimulating and difficult. You definitely have to study, and it's very cooperative among your peers, not competitive. It's laid-back for sure. The admissions office looks for well-rounded kids, and this school is full of them. Everybody has fascinating stories of what they did or where they came from. I love it. This an amazing school.

I love Whitman, and I'm very glad...

I love Whitman, and I'm very glad I chose it. It's a very intellectual environment, and I've learned a lot from peers and professors both inside and outside of class. Even though Walla Walla is small, there is an abundance of groups and activities to get involved in on campus. I find myself almost too involved.
