Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

There are plenty of drugs on the Wilkes campus. That is, in the pharmacy labs. Recently in a series of drug busts, Wilkes-Barre police removed a lot of drug dealers from the streets. Good news. However, the scene continues to be prevalent in the area. A look at the police blotter in every day’s paper will show at least one person on a drug charge, no matter how small. However, word of drugs being used on campus is rarely heard. This doesn’t mean that it does not exist, as several students report knowing people who smoke marijuana. Some students even swear that some professors do. But, it seems as though drug activity is
kept very hush-hush. If it is happening, people are selective in who they tell, and those who are told are good at keeping quiet.

It’s very rare that a Wilkes student—on or off campus—is caught using or caught with paraphernalia. One event does come to mind—many years ago a student had a small amount of pot mailed to her in the Wilkes mailroom. Dumb move. That was probably the biggest story. However, for students who want it, whatever their “it” is, it is sure to be found off campus. But, great caution should be taken. Remember: busts galore.

Drugs

I don't think there is any peer pressure at this school. I feel everyone does their own thing and if you don't want to do drugs you won't get judged.

Drinking Rather Than Drugs

The drug availability at Wilkes isn't very noticeable. Most kids on the weekends tend to drink more because it easier to get than drugs. I do see some kids smoking pot but never anything more than that.

Kegs Are Very Popular

Usually the graduates students who have turned 21 throw parties at their dorms and there are usually 3 kegs on average that are used every weekend according my guess. Drugs aren't very popular due to high campus security 24/7 around the clock on campus.
