College Prowler Take

Wilkes University boasts some pretty decent facilities. But aside from the buildings themselves, the campus is spotless and in the nicer weather, the grass is always freshly manicured, the trees and shrubs are trimmed to perfection, the mulch is fresh, and the flowers are vibrant. This campus is kept up with, that’s for sure. Many people will complain about the smell in the library (we think it is a result of the 1972 Agnes flood that devastated the whole Wyoming Valley). However, the library itself is a large, three-story building with a basement chock-full of materials from journals, magazines, and periodicals to books and microfilm. There are also DVDs and videos to rent. The library staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. The Henry Student Center, erected in 2000, is the hub of campus activity. The third floor houses the cafeteria and catering services, as well as several student service and student club offices. The second floor is home to the mailroom, several meeting rooms, the Leadership Training room, a lounge, the ballroom, and the community service, multicultural affairs, and campus interfaith offices. The second floor lounge area also has a huge atrium, overlooking the lower level. The lower level houses the Rifkin Café, the information desk, student government office, the student development/internship offices, game room (with juke box, foosball, and pool tables), and a little cozy area with a fireplace and couches. The University Center on Main now boasts some indoor athletic practice fields, as well as a ropes course for leadership training. This facility is very impressive.

Facilities are generally very nice and well-kept. While not grandiose by any means, most buildings are furnished well and have a modern touch. A relatively newly purchased building, the University Center on Main, houses many indoor sport facilities, such as tennis courts, soccer fields, basketball courts, and an indoor climbing wall. The athletic and student centers are fairly new, however the library could use a significant modernization to decor and furnishings. The area that Wilkes encompasses was a fairly well-to-do region at the turn of the 20th century, and as such, many administrative buildings (and some learning facilities) are housed in rather nice mansions.

The library is nice and has neat furniture. The cafeteria and student center building is nice. Most of the public spaces are comfortable and appealing. For instance, the fireplace in the student union surrounded by couches is cozy.

Generally, the facilities are...

Generally, the facilities are nice. Our athletic gym and athletic facilities are pretty up-to-date. Our workout facility is state-of-the-art and is fairly new. Breiseth is pretty up-to-date and has ‘smart’ classrooms. Stark, on the other hand, needs some work, and I think they plan on doing that. We do have a new recreation area in UCoM that is really nice. It has indoor practice facilities, a rock wall, and a ropes course.

The student center and gym are really nice, but the library leaves a bit to be desired. The pharmacy library is really nice.

The facilities staff at Wilkes...

The facilities staff at Wilkes goes above and beyond. This school shines. The staff is nice and friendly and will hold the door for you as they are wiping them down. The landscaping is beautiful! The gardeners are there all day, every day in the spring and summer. These are the people that work hard to make us proud to say we go to this nice campus.
