Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Dorm life at Willamette is nice, and most students will live on campus all four years. The East Side of campus houses most of the freshmen, so for those who want a robust social experience, the East Side is for them. The West Side of campus is home to Doney and Lausanne. For sophomores and juniors living on campus, these are the choice dorms. Lausanne is considered the nicest dorm not only because of its beautiful exterior, but also because the rooms are considerably larger than in any other dorm. This dorm also has extended quiet hours, so it is nicer for students who actually want to get homework done in their room. The rooms in Doney are not as large as Lausanne's rooms, but they are still more spacious than the East Side dorms. It also has a prime location right on the quad, and is only a few steps away from the dining hall.

The Cornerstone area houses many upperclassmen because it includes the University Apartments and Haseldorf Apartments. Also in Cornerstone are Lee and York, two small intimate dorms. The rooms are older but accommodating. Shepard and Baxter halls are Willamette’s only dry dorms. This rule means that the students who live there make an agreement not to bring any alcoholic substances into the dorm, nor to come home under the influence. Across the sky bridge from Main Campus is the Kaneko Commons, the largest dormitory on campus. Kaneko consists of three wings: one with traditional dorms for freshmen, one with dorms that have private bathrooms, and one with nice apartments for upperclassmen. It also includes its own dining hall, which has great Japanese cuisine. Kaneko is the only dorm with air conditioning. Some students do not like the idea of living in Kaneko because it is isolated from the rest of campus. It should be noted that all of the students living in dorms eat at one of the dining halls on campus, except for those living in apartments with kitchens.

Good

Dorms on the east side of campus tend to be a bit smaller and the ones on the westside a bit bigger. The apartments are really nice but unfortunately you can't get them until your junior and senior year.

Dorms

I love living in the dorms here on campus because it is so easy to socialize and meet new people. I also like that we do not have to check into a front desk every time we have a guest over.

It's What You'd Expect

Housing is what you'd expect. Underclassmen dorms have worst facilities, upperclassmen dorms have nicer ones. However, living on one of the Eastside hallways (Baxter, Belknap, Matthews, Terra, Cascadia, Northwood, & Southwood) will guarantee you a few friends, so it's definitely worth the stay. The Westside (Doney/Lausanne) is better if you like better facilities over companionship. I don't know much about the Cornerstone houses (Lee, York, and Shephered) but I heard they're not the greatest. If there's anything we could improve, it's the laundry machines: they're often broken and we need more of 'em. Other than that, not a bad college experience at all.
