Best Places to Find a Spot
  • Another prime parking position is Mill Street in front of the sorority houses, but you will have to parallel park.
  • Sparks, the main parking lot that is also the most convenient, generally has spots available until 10 a.m.
  • Spots are generally available along State Street between the Capitol and Eaton Hall, but they are metered spots with a maximum time of two hours, even if you have a city parking permit.
Good Luck Getting a Spot Here
  • The Matthews parking lot is almost always full as well because the residents of Matthews and Belknap do not move their cars all week. The situation is similar for the University Apartment lot.
  • Parking in Sparks between 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. takes a stroke of luck.

Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

The most important thing to know about parking on the Willamette campus is that you do not need to bring a car to campus. Most things you need or will want to do are within walking or biking distance. If you do decide to bring a car, be prepared to fight for parking. Willamette has several parking lots, including the Sparks parking lot, University Apartments parking lot, the Matthews parking lot, and the Kenako parking lot. You can have a car on campus all four years, but purchasing a parking permit is expensive. Despite the lack of a need for a car and the cost of a parking permit, there is more demand for parking spots than there is supply.

If you live on campus, find a good parking spot and keep your car there at all times, as a good parking spot is hard to find. If you live off campus, it is relatively easy to find a spot before 10 a.m., but after that time, finding a spot can be almost impossible. While it is tempting to park without a parking permit or to park on the street in metered spots without paying, it is a temptation that is important to resist. Campus Safety is more than happy to fine anyone who parks without a permit, and Salem parking enforcement is very good at fining people who park without paying.

Parking Is Great!

We have four parking lots and some street parking. I know many people with cars and none of them seem to have problems parking them. The only concern is when there are major events going on, such as prospective student preview days, and students have to move their cars from certain areas.

Alright, but Sometime Problematic

While the parking is available and convenient, they do require various permits to park different places on campus, which can be a pain. For instance, if you live in Kaneko, they require a special permit, which only allows you to park near Kaneko, and not on the main campus.

Parking Situation at School

my permit was $120 for the entire year. For a reserved pass it's around $3000. I've never had a ticket or fine so I don't know how that would go. I've never not been able to find a place to park with the permit I have now.
