Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

It’s wonderful to have your own computer at Williams, but it is far from necessary because there are so many labs, and they are never full. Wi-Fi is available everywhere in Williamstown through the school network, including the coffee shop and all the little corners of campus.

The OIT (Office of Information Technology) in Jesup is there to fix any problems that students encounter with computers, from teaching them to use Photoshop to fixing a hard drive. OIT regularly hosts free classes so students can learn new and interesting computer programs to enhance their computer experiences. The OIT equipment loan center allows students to rent every kind of equipment imaginable, including expensive SLR cameras or video cameras and microphones.

Hmmm

One color printer on campus. Network is iffy. The student help desk people at the Office of Information Technology know nothing.

Computer Labs and Purple Air

It is not necessary to have a laptop at Williams, as there are many computer labs that are filled with relatively nice Macbooks and Dells. The labs usually aren't too crowded, either, as many students DO have laptops and don't need to rely on the school's systems. My complaint would be about the school's wireless network system, Purple Air, which is mercurial at best. The lack of a fast, efficient internet system can be incredibly irritating.

There are many computer labs on campus, but I would definitely recommend bringing your own computer solely out of convenience. Since there is WiFi all over campus, you are able to use it anywhere! However, if you don't have a computer, you would have absolutely no trouble finding one to use.
