Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Williams has no Greek life, and most students feel good about this. They find that a fraternity is not the kind of structure they need in order to have a fulfilling college life. Few Williams students say they have a desire to bond with other students under the authority of a fraternity.

The rumors about a secret fraternity remain a mystery. The idea that sports teams substitute fraternities on campus is also highly debatable, but somewhat confirmed by the fact that teams are often able to live in the same dorm.

No Greek Scene

Plain and Simple: Williams does not have a Greek scene. It probably would further separate the campus if it did exist though.

I think if we had frats, this...

I think if we had frats, this place would be even scarier than it already is for people who are not white. I know that the white male jocks would dominate the frat scene and force people into all kinds of unnecessary and embarrassing things. I think people go to college to learn to be themselves, not to conform, and to learn to stand up for who they are, even if the majority rejects them outright. Frats on the Williams campus, on the other hand, would show even more how socially isolated this place is, and how it tries to imprison everybody in their own bubble. So maybe if we had them, if this became more evident, and if people became even more miserable, they would do something about it.

Williams is very progressive for not having frats, but I wonder why some people try to establish them secretly.I don’t want to be a member.
