A variety of people in classes and clubs. Wingate used to be an obviously Christian-affiliated university, but not anymore. There is an atmosphere of respect and tolerance for all beliefs and values.

The vast majority of the students here are white, middle class, straight Christian students. Although everyone is usually pretty accepting, it can be tough here, especially for students of a minority religion or students who are not heterosexual. Additionally, we have a reputation for being very conservative, and this is true to a pretty great extent.

Kids from Everywhere but.. ...there are a lot of white students. We have a lot of International students, but they all hang out with each other. The Brazillians have their own cliq, the British kids all hang out with each other, as well as the whites and blacks, and other groups. There are a lot more black kids than there used to be. When I first started there were a handful and most of the black kids were football players. Whenever Barack Obama was named President, a lot of the white students were NOT happy and openly talked about moving to Canada, or made comments about dropping out of school now because there would be no jobs once they graduated.

Being a small, private college, I didn't expect to encounter a huge range of diversity within in the school, but I've already met numerous students of various ethnic backgrounds, including plenty of students from over-seas.
