Overall ExperienceWhat's This?

Most people who decide to come to WPI absolutely love the school. The small, welcoming atmosphere is wonderful. Students tend to like the campus itself, too; it's beautiful, especially in the spring. Occasionally, people dislike the workload at the school, but many people would return to WPI if they had to do it all over again.

The community at WPI is the best feature of the school; it's what keeps people there, even though the work is tough. Joining a club or a sports team is a great way to make WPI feel like "home." Even though students can be 2,500 miles from home, they can feel like they have family on campus, through involvement in sports and clubs.

Off-Campus Housing at Worcester Polytechnic Institute

Worth It

Off-campus housing is fairly easy to find, especially if you have upperclassmen friends who are currently living off campus. It's easy to find good apartments that aren't too expensive, though some landlords will be worse than others. Typically most apartments aren't more than a 10 minute walk from campus and many are right next to apartments that are leased out to other students at WPI. It's a good idea to live off campus especially if you want to minimize your loans/expenses while at college.

Upperclassman Dorms Aren't Worth It

It's not worth living on campus after freshman year. The meal plan is too expensive and the food is not that good. Dorms and on-campus apartments are also expensive, but the apartments are better than the dorms. Living off campus is a lot cheaper all around, but some areas are kind of dangerous to live unless you know your way around a city.

Wide Variety of Options Available

Although housing is not guaranteed all four year, there have always been space available for students to live on campus if they wish. There is a wonderful new dorm for upperclassmen and a new one will be constructed in the next year or so as well. All of the residence halls are very close to the heart of campus so there is no trouble getting back and forth to class easily.
