For the most part, the facilities on campus at Xavier are first class. The O’Connor Sports Center is a popular place for students to work out, and it also includes an extensive gym and weight room. The OSC also houses an Olympic-sized swimming pool, three basketball courts, and holds aerobics classes regularly. There are many computer labs in the academic buildings and in the student center, so students have access to computers 24 hours a day. Most of the equipment is new and is networked across the entire campus.

The Gallagher Student Center functions as the centerpiece for the campus. A variety of shops and restaurants, including Coffee Emporium and Subway, as well as tables, sofas, and flat-screen TVs make the student center a popular place for students to relax and study during the day. The student center also houses a performing arts stage and seating bowl. Unfortunately, upon it’s opening, many of the University’s offices were moved into the four-level structure, so it doesn’t truly feel like it belongs to the students. This explains the student resentment in some of the quotes.

The basketball arena is state of the art. Gyms are ok. Nice new outdoor basketball courts and sand volleyball courts.

Pretty Decent Facilities

The facilities on campus are pretty good. The clubs and Student Government offer a lot to do for extremely cheap or free. The student center always has something going on and the buildings offer a great place to study or just hang out. The green space is always full of people playing sports or just hanging out. The library is quiet but old but I like the old and new feeling. Too much construction right now but when it is done it will be beautiful.

Aside from all the day-to-day amenities of the Gallagher Center, there is often a comedy show or live music of some kind in Ryan’s Eatery and Pub, located on the ground floor. Ryan’s will also be packed for football games and before and after home basketball games. Many students also like to attend evening jazzercise and aerobics classes at O’Connor. Other students just like to hang out on the Residential Mall, in front of the dorms, and play Frisbee.

During the day, the Gallagher Student Center is the place to be. Whether you need to study, catch the 12 p.m. SportsCenter, shoot some pool, or just get a cup of coffee, the “G-Spot” is where it’s at. You can also catch a late-night movie or a performing arts event at the theater in the student center. While some students enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of Gallagher, others prefer to head down to the O’Connor Sports Center to pump some iron, take a swim, or play hoops.
