Xavier

Xavier has a unique community that caters for one another. I have to say, EVERYONE here is friendly. Also, Xavier is a small school so there are lots of opportunities for students who stand out in any way. There are parties for the freshman on the weekends, but there are also options for students who don't want to drink. Overall, i would say that Xavier is a great place that every student should check out.

Everything I Was Looking for and More.

Coming into my first year, I was insanely nervous but also extremely excited. It was tough in the beginning learning how to adjust to college life. After the initial adjustment period, I got the hang of college life and really started to enjoy my time at school. I met amazing new friends, had tons of laughs, and was exposed to a lot of new opportunities. I am 100% satisfied with me college choice and would not change a thing about my freshmen experience.

Facts

Traditions
  • The Crosstown Shootout: The battle between Xavier and the University of Cincinnati has been going on since 1927, when Xavier, then an all-male institution, took on UC at the old Schmidt Field House and won, 29-25. The rest, as they say, is history. Every year, in the middle of basketball season, the entire town experiences a division of allegiance. The site of the Xavier–UC game, now known as the Skyline Chili Cross-town Shootout, rotates annually. Xavier has come out on top seven of the last ten times. Students have camped out all night and even have been known to skip a few classes until the tickets are distributed. The Shootout is broadcast annually on ESPN or ESPN2, and every bar in the city is packed with Cincinnati Bearcat and Muskie supporters alike, hoping for another victory in one of college basketball’s most heated rivalries.
  • The Pig Roast: The annual Pig Roast is by far the best social event of the year for XU coeds. Not only does it commemorate the last week of classes for the year, but it also serves as an opportunity for everyone on campus to party one last time before summer. While no one is sure when the Pig Roast officially became its namesake, the idea of having a gigantic party at the end of the year is decades old. The event has become so big that the tenants of the house where it is held sell wristbands at 10 bucks a pop to get in, and they give out commemorative T-shirts as well. That way, when you wake up the next day and don’t remember where you were, you can look at your shirt and say, “Oh!” It is a well-known fact that the Pig Roast is going to happen no matter what, so Cincinnati police officers show up to keep the peace and make sure no one gets hurt.
Urban Legends
  • An XU dad bought the house across from Bellarmine Chapel so his daughter could live on campus.
  • The E! show Wild On was supposedly going to film a show at Soupie’s.
  • The first house on the residential mall is not a part of campus. It is owned by a judge who refused to sell it to campus, but willed it to Xavier so it will be part of campus after he passes. Supposedly the many cats roaming about campus belong to him.
  • Xavier, a Catholic school, has more professors that are Jewish than any other religion.
