Recruitment Like No Other!

Throughout my college scouting process, there was no other university that was as persistent, aiding, and determined to recruit me. Naturally, I figured, if the school is as friendly and caring as they were demonstrating, I can only imagine how my college experiences will be. Foremost, allow me to clarify... my college experience was not horrible by any stretch of the imagination. That being said, I arrived at Xavier with high expectations. Academically, I made my journey as fruitful as possible, and even when I switched majors and added minors, the transition was as professional as can be. But for the money paid at this private academic institution, there is much more to improve on (social-awareness, true community outreach, cultural diversification w/out segregation, adequate student representation, emergency/clinic services, etc.) Overall, if you only seek to go to college for the academics, then Xavier can be the school for you, in fact, almost any accredited college can be your place. But if you want more out of your college experience, make sure you have options on your list.

Sketchy

Xavier University hides many things from the public. There was a guy that raped three girls but they refused to kick out. I had numerous problems with the school. The school does not follow its own handbook and if offered money will break the laws.

Xavier Nation

You don't realize how awesome the small campus is until you leave for class 5 minutes before it starts and are still on time. And during that five minute walk, you are nearly guaranteed to see people you know. It's so nice to see friendly faces around you everywhere. When the weather is nice, there is no better place to be than the greenspace. Xavier provides tons of opportunities, you just have to get involved and dive right in.

Facts

Traditions
  • The Crosstown Shootout: The battle between Xavier and the University of Cincinnati has been going on since 1927, when Xavier, then an all-male institution, took on UC at the old Schmidt Field House and won, 29-25. The rest, as they say, is history. Every year, in the middle of basketball season, the entire town experiences a division of allegiance. The site of the Xavier–UC game, now known as the Skyline Chili Cross-town Shootout, rotates annually. Xavier has come out on top seven of the last ten times. Students have camped out all night and even have been known to skip a few classes until the tickets are distributed. The Shootout is broadcast annually on ESPN or ESPN2, and every bar in the city is packed with Cincinnati Bearcat and Muskie supporters alike, hoping for another victory in one of college basketball’s most heated rivalries.
  • The Pig Roast: The annual Pig Roast is by far the best social event of the year for XU coeds. Not only does it commemorate the last week of classes for the year, but it also serves as an opportunity for everyone on campus to party one last time before summer. While no one is sure when the Pig Roast officially became its namesake, the idea of having a gigantic party at the end of the year is decades old. The event has become so big that the tenants of the house where it is held sell wristbands at 10 bucks a pop to get in, and they give out commemorative T-shirts as well. That way, when you wake up the next day and don’t remember where you were, you can look at your shirt and say, “Oh!” It is a well-known fact that the Pig Roast is going to happen no matter what, so Cincinnati police officers show up to keep the peace and make sure no one gets hurt.
Urban Legends
  • An XU dad bought the house across from Bellarmine Chapel so his daughter could live on campus.
  • The E! show Wild On was supposedly going to film a show at Soupie’s.
  • The first house on the residential mall is not a part of campus. It is owned by a judge who refused to sell it to campus, but willed it to Xavier so it will be part of campus after he passes. Supposedly the many cats roaming about campus belong to him.
  • Xavier, a Catholic school, has more professors that are Jewish than any other religion.
