Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

With several on-campus options for upperclassmen, many juniors and seniors choose to stay on campus. However, many students at X want the freedom of their own place after serving time in the dorms. There are plenty of apartments and houses close to campus that are available for students to rent, and there are even a few that the University owns. In many respects, living off campus is cheaper, especially if you don’t purchase a meal plan. Some of the problems that come up are that many of the streets and neighborhoods surrounding campus are not nearly as safe as the campus itself. Chances are, if you ask anyone who has moved off campus, they’ll probably tell you that they enjoyed having a place to call their own once they got settled in and figured out how to adjust from the sheltered dorm life. Of course, don’t expect the cleaning lady to come to your off-campus abode every Thursday with a bottle of Lysol and a fresh batch of toilet paper.

While there are a multitude of places to look for an apartment, the choices aren’t always the best. Oftentimes, students find themselves in older apartments that are a far cry from the plush dorms they are used to at Xavier. With the size of the student body outgrowing the number of on-campus apartments XU offers, more and more juniors, seniors, and even sophomores are finding themselves living on their own. The main problem with off-campus housing at Xavier is value. In other words, you don’t always get what you pay for. In the long-run, the price between on-campus and off-campus housing (meal plans excluded) is about the same, so if you are just looking for a place to crash, staying on campus may not be a bad solution.

Ok Housing

I love the dorms, people come in once a week to clean our showers, sinks, and toilets, along with restocking our toilet paper supply. However, there is not a lot of parking. The cost for dorms is extremely high but the environment is pleasent and fun.
