Its a Private Catholic University...

For being a expensive, Catholic university in the Midwest. Xavier does great job. Xavier students are not only taught but truly live out the Jesuit/Catholic mission of living for others, and all people are welcomed here.

Snow Days Are at a Minimum!

We have had a number of snow days while I have attended Xavier. Most of the time we have nice weather so it doesn't affect us too much.

Xavier Is Somewhat Diverse

Xavier does have diversity. There are many ethnic and political backgrounds here.

Dining on Campus Is Adequate

I have worked in one of the on campus restaurants as well as the dining hall. It has been a good place for me to work.

Xavier Nation

You don't realize how awesome the small campus is until you leave for class 5 minutes before it starts and are still on time. And during that five minute walk, you are nearly guaranteed to see people you know. It's so nice to see friendly faces around you everywhere. When the weather is nice, there is no better place to be than the greenspace. Xavier provides tons of opportunities, you just have to get involved and dive right in.

Home.

Xavier just has a home atmosphere. Every time you come back to campus after a break, it's like coming back to your alternate family. I love Xavier. There are times I wish it was more active (if you're looking for a raging party school, don't come) or a little bigger, but what you get out of your experience here leaves you a lot more well rounded.

Less to choose from.

There are a couple clubs in downtown Cincy, if you wanna take a cab and pay to get in there. Parties around campus exist, but seem to always be the same places over and over. Gets lame after awhile. As a smaller school, there isn't much to choose from. But really, you have to know the right people. And once you are an upper classman, nightlife improves exponentially.

BASKETBALL.

Basketball. That's all you really need to know. Currently, we're in the Sweet 16. Xavier basketball is a huge uniting factor around campus. Once season rolls around, things just get more exciting. And being on campus during NCAA tourney time, especially when Xavier is making a run? Indescribable. Alright, it kinda sucks not having a football team. But our soccer team does well?

Bad reputation.

Xavier gets picked on for having unattractive girls. I don't see it. There are plenty of pretty girls, just less to choose from. This is to be expected at a small school. Same goes for guys. People here are overall genuinely nice. A lot of intelligent people around, but still know how to have fun. There is a right group for you, just might have to feel things out to find them.

Better than most.

Even the freshmen dorms are better than at most schools. Brockman is the only dorm with communal bathrooms, but is known for being a tightly bonded group of freshmen. Husman and Kuhlman are suite style, and generally nice dorms. Buenger has a common room, which is nice but spaces the dorms out more so you tend to meet less people in your hall. Fenwick, the newest dorms, aren't for freshmen. Crazy nice, though. Hotel quality place, directly attached to the cafeteria, which is really nice when the weather sucks.

If you can get to it..

There isn't much in an immediate walking distance, but if you have a car there is a ton to pick from. Hyde Park is a few minutes away with some awesome little places to eat. Within an exit or two from campus there are tons of options. Downtown Cincy also adds some more choices. Really there is plenty, as long as you have a way of getting there.

Could be worse

People may be rough on the caf, but compared to a lot of other places, it is nice. It's brand new and has some good options. Always room for improvement, but really alright. Subway is a hugely popular spot to get food on campus. Currito Burrito is new this year and popular as well; it's basically a knock-off of Chipotle. There are a couple other places around campus as well.

So. Slow.

If you plan on using one of the many computers around campus, prepare to wait 43534534 hours for it to log you on. Seriously. But once you finally get logged on, they aren't too miserably slow.

Stay on Campus

I have never once felt in danger on campus. Cincinnati may be a city with a bad reputation, but if you're on campus there seems to be virtually no danger.

Nasty 'Nati

The area people generally either love or hate our campus. They love using our outdoor basketball courts, though. It's not exactly a super tight knit community immediately surrounding campus, but we tend to stay in the Xavier bubble at most times anyway.

Depending on your program...

The science department is very strong. If you go in as a science major, prepare to be challenged, but learn a ton. Nursing is known for being a great program, but a lot of work. We have a great business school, too. Being in a city with two division 1 universities and professional sports teams, our sports management program is popular too. I am sure the other programs are great as well, but those are some of the most popular.

Better Than Some.

It's Ohio, so weather is a bit streaky. But winter is shorter and less harsh than most other places in Ohio. And when it's nice weather here, it is BEAUTIFUL. Sometimes have to deal with some torrential downpours, though.

Meh.

Pot seems to be the drug of choice. It's around, but not too in-your-face. Drinking is a more popular activity, but there are still plenty of people you can find that don't partake in even that. I have heard of harder drugs being taken, but it's more rare.

Not Bad

The CLC/library are really nice places to study, with a lot of different options within them. The O'Connor gym is outdated but has what you need. Outdoor basketball and sand volleyball courts are about as nice as it gets! Campus itself is up-kept very well and looks great, especially right now with the warm weather. Gallagher student center is nice, but I don't know many people who really hang out there- mostly just useful for the bookstore and Subway.

Best Place on Earth

This school is the most amazing place, and i could not have chosen a better place. I love my dorm and all of the people i have met. It is heaven here and even my friends who have visited have said it was a better school than their own.

Acceptable Amount of Diversity

There is a pretty wide variety of diversity on campus. there are many different people with different faiths, political beliefs, racial background, and sexual orientation. Everybody is accepted and there is a great atmosphere here.

Changes Every Hour and Unseaonable

One day in November, I woke up and it was barley above 40. Before the day was done the high was 67. It is now January and we had an ice storm a few days ago. Now everyone is walking around in shorts.

Not Much

There are multiple house parties every weekend but they get busted up pretty quickly and walking in the cold sucks.

Not Much in Walking Distance

There is not much to eat off campus that's in walking distance. If you or someone you know has a car you can go to Hyde Park which as a lot of place.

Wireless Network Is Bad

The internet connection at Xavier University is not good. It often stops working or has to be restarted. Having Wi-fi everywhere on campus is nice and having free printing is great. The computers could also be updated.
