YVCC is a very diverse college with students from many different backgrounds and ethnicities. There is a large population of older adults returning to school and the levels of acceptance are high. Everyone is accepted and respected in regards to diversity.

While I attended I saw a variety in the people who were attending. There were many students just out of high school, many middle aged who were looking to gain more education for better jobs and everyone in between. There were several different ethnic groups represented and for the most part people seemed to get along well. I know I did with most. When it came to political and religious stances however, I wish I'd been able to just skip any debate over that. It got a little ugly in the class a debate was required in. It might have been better had the teacher not only given us 2 1/2 days notice. Either way a good mix of people that generally get along amicably.

Most students at my school are focused on passing the class and work hard throughout the quarter. Most of the students in my classes are Mexican American or Caucasian. Most of my classmates have been willing to communicate with anyone and understand that not on student is better than another. My math class this past quarter was definitely not like that. Many of the students acted like they were the smartest and would not socialize with us "dumb students" that sat in the back. Even though I passed with an A+ in that class, those students were not very friendly.

The students all seem to get along, and there is plenty of diversity. There are many different clubs in order to sort out the diverse people, and every quarter there is a presentation of diversity, such as for Latinos, the deaf, etc.

My school contains various age groups that are either still in High School or fresh out of High School. I have seen several older people at college trying to make their lives and their childrens lives a lot more stable by going to educate their knowledge/skills. The students look as if they are happy and very self-determined/self-motivated, as I am.
