College Prowler Take
Most students agree that the facilities at Yale are pretty nice. The residential colleges are beautiful, architectural wonders, and those that have been renovated are equally beautiful on the inside. The classroom buildings are often as picturesque as cathedrals, affording students the opportunity to learn amidst stained glass and gothic stone work. However, if you ask students about facilities, the first thing that comes up is the Payne Whitney Gym, which is amazing both inside and out. It is huge, the second largest gymnasium in the world, and fully-equipped. In addition, the gym offers dozens of free and pay classes every semester including yoga, dance, and kickboxing. There is no student center at Yale, but students agree that the lack of such a place is rarely, if ever, missed. Each residential college has a common room for meetings or just hanging out, as well as a library (or two, in the case of Davenport), dining hall, TV room, laundry room, and features such as private gyms, kitchens, darkrooms, or music rooms. Essentially, they are self-contained units.

The library is gorgeous, and the gym is huge. There are computers everywhere—even outside the dining halls. The facilities are definitely up to par. |

Facilities are, for the most part, very nice; nicer than I had expected, at least. Yale recently dumped a ton of money into some kind of undergrad organization space. It’s utterly useless—I don’t know more than three people who have ever been there—but I’ve heard it’s really spiffy. |

The facilities are pretty nice, especially in the renovated colleges. Payne-Whitney Gym is the scariest place on campus because it is large and intimidating, but the smaller residential college gyms are user-friendly. Each residential college has special features. For example, Saybrook College has a darkroom, and Branford College has squash courts. Each college has its own buttery (small food shop), kitchen, TV room, gym, laundry room, common room, dining hall, and library. |

Awesome. There’s no real student center, but that’s not a problem; there are tons of places to gather and do stuff. |

Favorite Things To Do
Yale Theater can often rival most off-Broadway shows, offering an astounding amount of talent for little or no money. If you want to experience a slightly more upscale evening, there are often art show openings where you can rub elbows with Yale’s “artsy” crowd while drinking wine and looking at some amazing works. If you feel like relaxing during the week, you can always see an independent film at the York Square Cinemas.
